Look and Feel Your Best with Doctor Assisted Weight Loss!

If you’re planning to spend your summer lounging on Madeira Beach, you’ll want to look and feel your best doing so. Devising a healthy weight loss plan with your doctor is the most effective way to ensure that you lose weight in a healthy way.

Ditch the Fad Diets

A number of trendy diets promise overnight weight loss results, but more often than not, they are ineffective and unsafe. Cutting calories may seem like a simple solution, but it can often deprive your body of essential nutrients instead, causing more harm than good for your health.

Fad diets such all promise quick results to a better body, but they are considered “fads” for a reason. These media-promoted diet trends don’t deliver healthy, long-lasting results. In fact, embarking on one of these diets without the supervision of a Madeira Beach doctor is incredibly risky.

When a person reduces his or her caloric intake, the body’s natural response is to slow the metabolic rate. Additionally, because these diets often involve avoiding or overloading on certain food groups, the nutritional intake becomes unbalanced and can lead to symptoms such as headaches, constipation, bad breath, or worse.

A Doctor Approved Weight Loss Plan

One of the most important things to remember when embarking on a weight loss mission this summer is to be realistic in your goals. Weight gain doesn’t happen overnight, and neither does weight loss.

Dr. Fred Leslie of Seminole Family Health Clinic near Madeira Beach can help customize a weight loss plan to help you healthily achieve your goals, including the following components:

  • Physician directed, custom diet plans
  • Nutrition education
  • Low glycemic impact eating
  • Weight checks
  • Medication monitoring
  • MIC injections once a week to increase fat burning
  • Lipo-C injections to enhance liver and gallbladder metabolism
  • Vitamin B-12 injections once a week to increase energy and enhance metabolism

Not every patient will need all these options, but an initial appointment will give your doctor a better picture of what goes to set and how to best help you reach them. How to Stay Safe During Your Summer Fun

It’s that time of year again, school is out and the beautiful beaches that surround the Seminole area are packed with families, locals and tourists both. But, as a local doctor, we know that all of the fun that comes with the sun also comes with some risks that everyone should be aware of, no matter what your favorite outdoor activity may be!

Sunburn and Heat Related Illnesses

What are the risks? Seminole summers are long, hot, and humid. Sunburn, dehydration, heat stroke, and other heat related illnesses are a serious problem during the summer months that cause many to spend unwanted time at their doctor getting back on their feet. And because the sun’s rays are at its strongest between the hours of 10am and 4pm, it is hard to avoid the heat.

How can they be prevented? The best way to prevent dehydration or any other heat related illness is to drink plenty of clear fluids. When outside make sure to be continuously applying sunscreen with a SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 30, to avoid sunburn, and always try to wear sunglasses, hats, and other protective clothing items. Take a break in the shade whenever possible, and if you do begin to feel faint, doctors recommend spending some time inside while replenishing your body with clear fluids.

Pool and Beach Safety

What are the risks? Any body of water is a risk, no matter how large or deep. Seminole area beaches can also be home to jellyfish and stingrays, as well as strong currents that can be a threat to even the best of swimmers. Beach signs and warning flags will be posted by lifeguards when possible but it’s important to make sure you’re aware of the area around you.

How can they be prevented? If harmed by jellyfish, stingrays, or any other form of beach life, make sure to see your nearest Seminole doctor immediately. Children should never be swimming or playing around a pool or beach area unsupervised. Any risk of drowning can be prevented. It is a good idea to make sure you are CPR certified or up to date with your certification.

Make sure to start off your pool or beach day prepared. Have a bag packed with clear liquids, snacks, shoes to protect feet from glass and hot surfaces and, of course, sunscreen. Before leaving the house, also double check the weather forecast to make sure no storms are headed your way.
